Burger Up! Shake Shack

Shake Shacks have been popping up all over NYC after the original one opened up in Madison Square Park back in 2004. Recently, I was in the Upper West Side and decided to check out the location on 77th Street and Columbus Ave just caddy corner to the Natural History Museum.

It was a cold sunny spring day in New York and the line was out. the. door. It moved pretty quickly and if you're there just for shakes there's a separate faster moving "C" line. Since the hubs hasn't had Shake Shack before we kept it simple with two Shack Burger singles with lettuce, tomato, and pickle, fries, and a draught root beer, yeah I said draught! The Shack burger comes with melty American cheese and a Shack sauce on a plain bun.

Spring Means Rain

And rain means cute rain boots and umbrellas! Since I've got Paris on the brain here's a rainy day in the City of Lights:
Back to the my point of this post, let's brighten up our rainy days with some accessories:

Penne with Sausage and Swiss Chard

Happy St. Patty's day! In St. Patrick's honor, I'm posting a recipe on greens. Also, it's just a coinicidence.

The other night I cooked swiss chard for the first time. I know it's not a big deal. People cook swiss chard all the time. But it's a "super veggie" so it is an excellent source of vitamin C and the antioxidant beta carotene as well as a good source of potassium and magnesium (clearly I copy/pasted that from somewhere). Tastes kinda like a heartier spinach. I used red chard and shallots so that's why the dish looks all pink and stuff.

To offset the "I'm being healthy and now so are you," aspect, I made this with my favorite supermarket brand of sausage - maple flavored Jimmy Dean's. Unnnnngh droooool. The sweet maple aroma fills the air and lingers. For a long time. So keep the windows open ;) or remember to febreeze after.

Growing up I always had a diary or a journal. I wrote in one most days of high school. After that, I didn't devote the time or energy. But I still love looking at journals and notebooks every time I'm in a paper store (which wasn't often until wedding planning when I was there. every. single. week.) During that time I picked up a trio of mini notebooks to throw in my purse to jot down notes when I met with a vendor or to write down ideas, to do lists, etc. Wedding planning is so over now and my notebooks are done but I thought why not keep it going and buy more cute ones such as these from Smock Paper:
I can't stand how cute their selection is. I LOVE the bold prints inspired by their reversible wrapping paper. During the paper stages of wedding planning, I was always looking for a way to incorporate Smock paper but just couldn't find a way. I think their everyday products are a good compromise especially at $6 for 2 notebooks, don't you? They have 11 choices, now how will I choose??

Steak + String Bean + Mushroom Stir Fry

Whenever I'm looking for a quick meal that's balanced in protein and veggies I go for a stir fry. This week I had beff...beef? on hand and some cute looking mushrooms and string beans.

Oscar Night Jambalaya

Mardi Gras is around the corner so I was in the mood for somethin' Cajun. It just also happened to be Oscar Night. Did I ever tell you I lived in New Orleans? Yeah...I was 3 years old. I did go to the Mardi Gras parade but the family-friendly version.
Now, don't fault me if this isn't authentic. I have no idea how close I am except there's shrimp, andouille sausage, rice, and some veg. I just needed to whip something up in time for the red carpet festivities.

Don't Ignore Me...

Or I'll poop on your rug.

The little f-er left a big one on the bathroom rug this morning. Granted, the hubs did ignore all signs pointing to "take me outside" including staring and sitting next to the front door. After the hubs was done showering, he opened the curtain to find the little morning pressie Buddy left. On the floor. In a pile.

And where was Buddy during the clean-up? Napping of course. Who wouldn't nap after a big poop.
