Good Eats Paris: Les Pâtes Vivante

By day 3, my travel buddy and I were full of heavy, creamy French fare and needed detox or at least a break for both our stomachs and wallets. We popped into Les Pâtes Vivante, a Chinese noodle joint serving hand pulled Shanghainese style noodles complete with show. Listen to him slap the noodles on the table.
Les Pâtes Vivante has two locations - one on each bank. We went to the second location on the Left Bank. They have 2 seating areas - upstairs with the live noodle show and downstairs which was much quieter and looked to be reserved for larger parties. Do not fret if you are seated down there as they have a live video stream of the noodles so you can hear the real sound in the background and watch it on the flatscreen. The owner, an older asian woman, walked around greeting her regulars talking in beautiful French and making sure we knew how to use the slanted bowls ;)

Les Pâtes Vivante has a varied menu with pictures to help of pan fried noodles, soup noodles, veggie and other meat dishes. The fresh hand pulled noodles were so good. Chewy but not doughy, it really absorbed the flavor of the sauces. My travel buddy opted for a spicy beef noodle soup. The beef was super tender in a deep brown spicy broth garnished with bean sprouts and cilantro.

I opted for a sauteed pork stir fry noodle. Also delish and garnished with bean sprouts, cilantro, leeks, and pickled mustard greens. I ate the whole bowl.

Not only were we full from noodles and live entertainment, the noodle bowls average 12 euro each. Not bad. Not bad at all. To remind ourselves we were in Paris, after dinner we walked along the Seine and ate Le Berthillon ice cream.

Looks great! I am going to have to try this place should I be lucky enough to get back to Paris. I agree with puggie that I am totally in a noodle mood now.
